Letterpress Print Party!

As part of Southern Graphics Conference International’s 2019 conference, Texchange, held at various institutions throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, I’m joining three of my graduate school colleagues to lead a demo on letterpress printing at our graduate school, University of North Texas.

Location: UNT Art Building, 1201 West Mulberry Street, Denton, TX 76201. Room ART 276
Time: Fri, Mar 8, 2019, 1–3pm
Presenters: Cat Snapp, Laura H. Drapac, Linda Lucia Santana, Christopher Wallace

Four professional artists reunite to letterpress print ephemera on the press they restored together as graduate students at the University of North Texas in 2011- a pivotal project for each member that jump started their art careers and small businesses. Under the guidance of Professor Lari R. Gibbons, they restored four inoperable letterpresses. Seven years later, these four former students, Laura H. Drapac, Linda Lucia Santana, Cat Snapp, and Christopher Wallace, will reunite at the University of North Texas to hold a Special Event and print letterpress ephemera on the remaining press still housed in UNT Printmaking, the Gordon floor model.

Please note that this demo is open to conference attendees only.

Urban Craft Uprising has a special curated section at the Seattle Gift Show this February, just for wholesale shoppers!

This is our fifth full year running this section at the SGS, and we think it's a great fit all around, as it allows our vendors a chance to experience a gift show, AND it brings more diversity to these sorts of events.

We'll have a section of 50 UCU vendors there, many of whom may be new to you, even if you've been frequenting our own wholesale shows each summer.

"With its fascinating focus on the artisan-created and handcrafted gifts known to be found only in the Pacific Northwest, the Urban Craft Uprising Pavilion will allow retailers to discover the highly-sought-after works of over 30 artisans from the indie craft show marketplace. 'The Seattle Gift Show is a destination for regional and national retailers seeking unique, eclectic designs to set their stores apart,' says Lisa Glosson, Vice President, Gift & Souvenir, Urban Expositions."

UCU First Thursdays in Occidental Square

Every First Thursday, April through October

This spring will be our third year partnering up with the Downtown Seattle Association to bring First Thursday activities to Occidental Park. There have been many iterations of it over the decades and we are so honored to be a part of its resurgence. As this area grows, so does this event and we are excited to bring a new element to it this year!

Pioneer Square is definitely seeing a revitalization with awesome new restaurants, great shops and galleries and many new businesses moving in (Weyerhauser, Expedia, etc.) As many of you also know, the cruise ships start coming in May, which is when tourism really starts picking up — not to mention SIFF, the Seattle Art Fair, all the conventions at the Convention Center, PAX and of course all the people who live in the area who enjoy attending First Thursday to get their awesome dose of culture.

We invite you to come shop with 40+ of some of the most talented local makers in the Seattle area, who will be setting up shop here in Occidental Park every First Thursday, from 12pm-9pm.

Edmonds Spring Fest hosted by Urban Craft Uprising

Urban Craft Uprising is so excited to announce that they are hosting their first event in Edmonds, WA! Over the past few years they've heard from many vendors how well they do at the Saturday Farmers' Market in Edmonds. UCU President Kristen Rask has since moved there and has seen a change in the demographic, with younger people living in the area.

They've also heard feedback from their fans that there is demand for UCU to come to the north end, to serve those who don't make the trek down to Seattle too often.

UCU is thrilled to be hosting this event at Civic Center Playfield, allowing space for 100+ craft and food vendors. Whether you live in Edmonds or not, we hope you'll come shop with us at this debut show!
